Friday started out with some delicious chicken tacos made in this very apartment. After that and some milling around it was back downtown to Joe's throw down. This was more fun than my little words can describe. I won't bore you with hyperbole. It was kind of fitting that this was the spot for the Minneapolis freestyle session of the year. Legends were on fire and things of that nature. More on that later. Joe has a very nice couch for sleeping on and the Seward Cafe has breakfast that would revive the dead. The only Friday night regret? Missing Monotonix.
Saturday evening was a Cabooze night. Last time I was at the Cabooze? I think it may have been October 2007 for an Abzorbr show but maybe there was something since then. Anyways, no offense, I just don't get there much. Much respect to a couple of local bloggers who had a hand in getting this show moved from Epic. I'm not in any hurry to check out a fancier version of the Quest. The musics were good last night. Frank Turner should have got a hour instead of 30 minutes. This was Frank's first time in Minneapolis and I hope he stops back soon. Please do me a favor and go buy one of Frank's records. I enjoyed The Loved Ones way more than I was expecting to. I honestly hadn't heard much about them but I guess they opened for The Hold Steady at First Avenue. Great, great set from them last night. Murder by Death was my main reason for going and of course they never disappoint. The Gaslight Anthem set was really good. Those Jersey boys got chops and they do what they do extremely well. That biz got way bassy though. Still a good time including a three song encore. Got a heads up text from Brody that Lookbook had sold out the Kitty Cat Klub. They deserve the attention. No matter where they play in town it wouldn't be a Murder by Death night if we didn't end up at closing The Triple Rock. Some relaxed conversation with Adam and Sarah from MBD followed by a "Drink up, it's time to go!" from Pete. Saving my po-boy for Wednesday.
Sunday bloody Sunday...
- finish the chicken tacos
